DREADNOUGHT : : dreadnoone : : dreadnothing : : conservative : : gay : : catholic : :Marriage a religious instituion? If I'm understanding this article correctly it seems to me that we gay men and woman ought to settle for civil unions for now. My first reaction upon reading this article was that of the history of African Americans and how difficult the war was to enable blacks to live in freedom, however you can have freedom but we cannot give you the write to vote yet. Is that really freedom. Its' better than slavery surely but it doesn't give them a voice. Gay marriage is not a religious institution becauase we do allow for atheist to be married. They are hardly religious. We allow couples to be wed by the justice of the peace. We allow couples to get married by going through a drive-up window to be married in Las Vegas. That's about as religious an experience as ordering a family meal at Mcdonalds. Why is the word marriage such a sticking point? Someone, anyone give me the reasoning why it is so.
